The Way Home---DVD review

A missing child. A family in crisis. A faith tested. In their darkest hour, God gives hope.
Dean Cain stars as Randy Simpkins, a husband and father torn between the demands of his job and family. Asked by his wife to watch their two-year-old son, Joe, for a few minutes, he becomes distracted by work. When he returns, Joe is gone. He and his wife search desperately for their missing son through the vast countryside. But as their fear grows, the community responds – hundreds of supporters uniting behind the family in a powerful spiritual journey that will test the couple’s love and faith, and forever change a community.

My Thoughts: When i found out that i could review a dvd this time from Booksneeze. I jumped at the chance! It would give me the opportunity to invite over some ladies from church and have a movie night, therefore getting a wider perspective for my review. I guess i'll start by saying that it is a great family movie. It's based on a true story about a family in Georgia that loses their little boy, and how an amazing amount of community steps in to help them look and pray for them and just rally around the family.
So now for the bad part of the review..this movie was a tad frustrating for my group. In MANY parts of the movie, the acting was downright terrible or even unbelievable. We kept mentioning to each other throughout that we couldn't fathom why the mother didn't shed a tear or FREAK OUT until the movie only had about 1/2 hr left!! It drove us absolutely nuts. SHOW SOME EMOTION! 4/5's of us are mothers and we knew from previous experiences that if you noticed your child was 'missing' you INSTANTLY start freaking out!
So while we did kind of enjoy the idea of the movie in general, i really don't think that any of us will be watching this one again. Sorry Dean Cain!

*I received a copy of this movie for free from Booksneeze in exchange for my review*

'The Surprising Way to a Stronger Marriage'...REVIEW

"The most significant act of love we can do for our spouse is the single act of personal responsibility—or “the power of one.” An individual in a marriage relationship cannot reach satisfaction in his marriage if he doesn’t first look at himself—and see where he needs to change first. Personal responsibility is the fuel that drives the actions of a healthy marriage. Usually, each spouse blames the other for their problems; this attitude will only lead to a path of unfulfilled expectations and heartache. Marriages can be transformed, literally overnight, when each spouse learns the power of one and starts accepting personal responsibility for his or her life and by learning how to love others to the fullest."

My Thoughts:
I will admit, i am not married, but i was, for almost 8 years..but i do feel married to my fiance and well i certainly don't want this relationship to fall apart like the last one! So i decided that reading and reviewing this book would be a good idea, as i knew that i needed to learn more about how to communicate, etc.
So let me start by saying that i love the size and style of this book! It's only 160 pages and it's written in a back and forth conversational style by Michael and Amy Smalley that is actually really easy to read! It was nice to read personal stories from their marriage from both the husband and the wife's perspective. Now while i don't think that this book could have saved either of our marriages, i do think that reading this now so early in our life together it could save us from falling into that same fate. I found myself nodding in agreement so many times throughout, and have quite the list of things that i need to work on WITHIN MYSELF to really give this a good fighting chance!

Tyndale House Publishers has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book as part of their blogger program, in exchange for my review.
