Wordless Wednesday - Sweltering
Today it was 27.3C (81F) in my livingroom and with humidex it was 40C outside!(that's 104F!).
It is DISGUSTINGLY hot. So i stayed in all day with my tea on the rocks and some good books!
Stylish Blogger Award!
A big thankyou to Char over at The Epic Adventures of a Modern Mom for passing this award on to my little blog! THANKYOU!
Sooo..7 things about me..
1) my drink of choice is generally good ol' water.
2) I have never had a pedicure/manicure/massage/gone to the spa. I'm actually rather afraid of the whole idea. weirdo!
3) I absolutely LOVE to read. And must have passed on that love, because BOTH my girls learned to read at 3.
4) I was once married for 8.5 years. Yes, I am only 31.
5) I am a big ol' scaredy cat. There are sooo many things that i am irrationally afraid of. (point one, i require a nightlight, no ifs ands or buts!)
6) I am horribly addicted to my Blackberry. It's a sickness.
7) I wish that i wasn't so socially inept. The hamster and I have a lot in common, if i could curl up in a coconut shell i think i would too!
Now to pass it on to 15 bloggers i think are 'stylish'!
(i'll have to post this part later, this is the rather time-consuming part!)

gardening!
Anywho, so here's what i've accomplished while trying to enjoy gardening..
The front garden has always been 'ok', so i added 5 more perennials to it today:
This little side garden has always been a pain in my arse, i love it, and it gets great sun, but it's full of nasty ants(i believe due to the peony), oh and i try to avoid gardening in it because i don't want to scare 'Chippy' from his home(a chipmunk lives under our porch)..here's the before shot:
And now for the AFTER shot..it took about 1/2 hr and now all it needs is some pretty mulch! (and Chippy doesn't seem to be scared off, so yay!) :)
And now just because, i'm going to share a close-up from my Fuschia hanging basket. Fuschia's are absolutely my FAVOURITE plant for hanging baskets, and when i went out to buy one this morning, i found this uniquue one! (the flowers normally emerg from a 'ball', but this one is a weird longer shape..love it!)
What do you think? Any advice?

Foodie Friday!
I had a friend coming over to knit, so i decided to get creative and make some whole wheat lemon blueberry muffins! They were a tad on the healthy side(re: dry bottoms!), but the other 3/4 of the muffin was QUITE tasty!!
You can check out the recipe HERE..(instead of the whole 1/2 cup oil, i used 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup applesauce)
Then later for dinner i had promised the girls make-your-own pizza night to go with our movie. So i decided to brave making the pizza crust(i have a HORRIBLE track record for making yeasty products!). I ended up making an herb and garlic crust, and I think i may have over-rolled the dough, but regardless it still turned out pretty awesome, and I think the new household fave is definitely spinach/pepperoni pizza! (we would have added mushrooms too, but apparently they were in the fridge too long. boo)
For a bedtime snack we had yummy watermelon! # of us had it cut up, but Hero decided to ask for a slice that turned out bigger than her HEAD! lol. She even ate it all!
And tonight, well, the good eating went out the window...here's my pretty knitting that i'm working on..can you spot my snack?? lol.
Have you been eating anything super-yum lately?

oh no..
Anywho, so i had some running around to do, and after i stopped in at a friends. I had something to drop off to her, and of course we got talking and then decided to have some tea...
and then the talking got more personal and share-y..and i started crying. I'm an emotional person anyways, but mostly i can keep the tears at bay!
I felt bad because she is mostly a 'new friend'..but she consoled me saying that it was ok, because i obviously needed to talk to someone about all this, and that if there was anyone who'd provide a safe place to talk it was her! I am so thankful for her, and that she was there today for me.
I think that it was just one of those days where things piled up and they had to be let out. And i must not have freaked her out too badly because she invited me for tea again next week! So yay i feel better emotionally, but booo i've ended up with a massive headache for the rest of the day :(
On a sidenote: it was pretty darn cute that when she offered me tea, she pulled out 2 mugs that she knew i had in my own mug collection at home :)
so of course i chose the comforting wonderful mug pictured above!

Long Weekend!
Yesterday we woke up and went to church, it was DOWNPOURING!
After that we picked up a bunch of tadpoles from a friend, so that we could check out their growing process! Very cool! Here's a pic of our new 'pets':
Then we dropped off Hero to go to a friends for a sleepover. Orangie didn't take it so well..aww sisterly love! So we quickly did our garden center errands, and then took off for the splashpad/park downtown to cheer her up. We had lots of fun! :) *though i was disappointed in myself that an online friend was there too and i didn't go and say hi! stupid shyness! sorry kelly!*
And as for today, well the weather has sure been another mixed bag again! it's been raining, sunny, cloudy, windy, calm, hot, cool, AND STORMY! All in one day?! Though we did finally get our back gardens tended to, so now all I need to do is hit the garden center again tomorrow to buy some plants! :)

pretty pretty! and armpits!
This morning was a gorgeous morning in these parts!(YAY!) So we all decided to head out and do a bit of garage sale'ing! With the weird and unpredictable(and cold) spring we had there really hasn't been much opportunity to get out there!
Anyways! I was soooo glad that we decided to go! Check out these 2 cute necklaces that i picked up!
(the little old lady that i bought them off of - $4! - said that she loved the wooden bead one, and that she bought it on a trip to Florence!)
And i loved that when i was out checking out the garden centers later I actually had someone stop me telling me it was gorgeous! woot!
And now because this photo really makes me laugh out loud...
A wonderful pic of Orangie sniffin' her armpits! (she was complaining that they were sweaty, and i said oh no! hope they're not stinky too! and well she decided to check them out...a lot! lol)
Bloggie Issues
Well I don't know what i did but i posted some bloghop stuff yesterday on my netbook, and when i got home last night and onto my regular laptop i noticed that my blog just doesn't LOOK the same anymore.
So please bear with me while i tinker around a bit here!
** UPDATE: problems have been solved, there was an issue with the code or linkie stuff from 1 of the 3 weekend hops..so i unfortunately had to remove the pasted text, etc. **

It's Working!

(don't mind the crappy shot)
But yay! I started counting the calories on the 14th at 192.(?) and now on the 19th I'm 189.8! I've been working VERY hard to stick to my 1200-1500 calories, drinking lots of water, and i've started walking again. It's been really hard too because i think that i must have gone from eating something like 3000 calories a day. GROSS.
Last night i hit a bit of turning point when I was catching up on Grey's in bed, this was around 11ish, and i started freaking out because i was sooooo 'hungry'. I may have sent 1 too many whiny/pitiful/angry texts to Mr.OHM. I just tried to keep on ignoring it but interestingly enough at about 11:30 I started having a Visual Migraine(crazy firey/kaleidoscope halo around vision, last for 20-25 mins, etc), so I decided that i really should get to bed before the real headache kicked in..and wow if it isn't here this morning! UGH.
But I'm proud, I made it through that insane 'hunger' attack last night!
What are your thoughts? Should i have given in and treated myself to the small portion of chocolate? should i have just gone and got something like fruit/veg? should i have stuck it out like i did? (i was just afraid to go and get something for fear i couldn't stop munching...)
And how are all my peeps that are in the same weight-loss-woes boat as me doing?

weight loss woes
And to be staying in a hotel with a really cool waterslide/pool and NOT be able to go, absolutely killed me. That was the point where i realized that the snacking and inactivity REALLY was affecting our quality of life, and quite negatively at that. :(
So i decided to go back to the calorie counting way of life. It's a bit of a pain in the butt, but it really gets you thinking about what you're putting in you and if it's really worth it! It's REALLY cut down on my nighttime snacking! (and i really shouldn't be doing that anyways!).
So i guess that i just thought that i should put it out there, hoping that it would make me a little more accountable. Are any of you out there going through the same thing? Please share!

Beano's Brand Sauces Review

Recently I got the offer to review 3 bottles of my choice of Beano's Brand Deli Condiments or Deli Bistro Sauces.
I eagerly checked out the choices and chose the 'Beano's Original Submarine Dressing', 'Beano's Heavenly Horse Radish Sauce', and 'Beano's Roasted Chipotle Deli Sauce'.
I really should have kept Mr. OHM more in mind with my choices, because he likes neither spicy nor vinegar. OOPS! I had the horse radish and the chipotle more in mind for me, but i had chose the Submarine sauce specifically for him (his fave!) forgetting that there is a major difference between American and Canadian sub sauce. American is more vinegar based, and Canadian is more like a golden italian dressing. OH WELL! More for me(!) because i LOVE these sauces!
I was upset at first when i realized how much i loved them, because i didn't think that they were sold north of the border, but i checked out their Find Beano's page and quickly realized that they were indeed available in Canada, and in a grocery store a 5 min walk from my house! WOOT!
If it wasn't sold nearby, i found out you can also order online!
So now to show you the meals i've enjoyed thanks to Beano's!
The first thing i made was a YUMMY BLT with the Horse Radish Sauce! (i went a little skimpy on the sauce, but quickly realized my mistake and went back and added more, i was afraid it was going to be too spicy, but it's a GREAT blend, so a bit more was just right!)

Next up, I made a ham and mozza quesadilla, again made with my fave the Horse Radish sauce! :) And again, it was SUPER YUM! (there really isn't much that i won't do with this sauce, i think i might mix it in with a tuna salad sandwich next or chicken salad, or possibly even egg salad!) If i ever run out of ideas i can certainly hit up their Recipes Center!

And then a couple nights ago, i decided to get a bit creative and try the Roasted Chipotle sauce on the chicken breast we were BBQ'ing up for dinner! We went easy on this spicy sauce because of Mr. OHM and the kiddos..but it turned out AMAZING and we know to use MORE next time! It was definitely a 2 thumbs up idea!

Now that we know how fantastic these sauces are, we've added more to the shopping list! Next to try are definitely the Mesquite Smoked, the Sweet Chili Pepper, and the Cilantro and Lime!
For more information about Beano's Brand Sauces be sure to check them out on the web HERE!
or on Twitter!
or on Facebook!
While on Facebook, check out the great promotion that Beano's has on till Aug 31st!
**note: I was given these sauces for free in exchange for my honest review! as always, you may or may not enjoy them as much as I did!**

snackie friday

Ok, so this Blogger crash really threw me for a loop! So instead of the review that i was going to post, i'm going to share my snack! lol.
Yesterday i went knitting in the park with a friend, and she brought this wonderful drink with her. She'd made a Ginger Green Tea/Lemonade mixture, and DANG it was yummy..so when i came home i brewed up my own mixture of Blueberry White Tea/Lemonade, which was also FRICKIN YUMMY. So now i'm on this crazy kick of ice tea combos..LOVE IT! Especially with this heat and humidity that came out of no-where! Wasn't it cold and snowy like yesterday?! lol.
So anyways, with the tea yesterday i decided to bring a box of the cookies that i got in the massive swag bag from Kraft that i won. They were the Peak Freans Life Style Peach & Yogurt cookies. HEAVEN i tell you. HEAVEN. These are absolutely my new favourite cookies in the world. They taste JUST LIKE peach yogurt. And they don't destroy the diet!
(so snack above is said cookies and a decaf lychee green ice tea. YUM!)

Mothers Day! and more..
So as you might know, i was away over the weekend..Hero had her Provincials Tournament for bowling. It wasn't exactly the best weekend to have it but alas we were together and that's what counts.
Here's a pic of the girls together doing some awesome fingerprint art in the hotel room Sunday morning..(klutz books come out with some really great crafty books!)
And here are the wonderful cards and presents the girls gave me. *squee!* The girls know me so well..stuff from Bath & Body Works and a monster(Kyle) from Monster Factory! LOVE IT! :)

The girls were a little sad that i had got sick during dinner and had to go to bed, but we had a whole bunch of snuggley time there, and they're pretty understanding, so i think we managed to have a great Mothers Day regardless.
And now just for fun, a couple of pics from this afternoon..
(Orangie had a bit of a sad day at school when her friends were making fun of her for some whacked out reason for wearing her favourite OldNavy best friends PB & J shirt--that she's worn MANY times before..sigh..gr 1 drama i tell ya) So chalkin' good time with Mama save the day..(let's pray that she'll go to school tomorrow without tears)

Sundae Hop! (co-host)
THANK YOU GILLIAN! :)
WITB #5 (review/giveaway)
I was very excited when i was chosen to participate on Tyndale's What's in the Bible Street Team. It meant that I would receive the What's in the Bible series as they come out to review and promote!
We already owned DVD's #1-4 and LOVE them, so I knew that this would be an easy task. They're something we already believe in wholeheartedly! I also love that as part of the Street Team I get to giveaway a freebie coupon for one lucky winner to get their own copy of What's in the Bible #5!

In What’s in the Bible? volume 5, Buck Denver and cast take us through 1 and 2 Samuel. The two episodes focus on three of the most influential kings of Israel (Saul, David, and Solomon). And the Tricky Bits section explains the Trinity (after we learn that the Spirit of the Lord fell upon David). The DVD highlights God’s promise to David and how the promise impacts the salvation story. We also see what happens when David (and the other kings) sin against God. Kids learn that there are consequences for sin!
From the man who made vegetables talk (and sing, dance, and tell Bible stories) comes an engaging new series that walks kids through the entire Bible! Each DVD is filled with an entertaining cast of characters that bring the most powerful Bible stories to life using humor, animation, creative storytelling, and fun songs. Join VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer on a wild and zany journey and see the world’s most amazing book come to life for a new generation.

Phil Vischer
In 1990, 24-year-old computer animator Phil Vischer sat down to create a group of characters that could teach Christian values to kids in a delightfully weird way. Hence, a tomato named Bob and a cucumber named Larry were born. VeggieTales would go on to revolutionize Christian filmmaking, selling more than 50 million videos and placing Phil's faith-filled stories in one in every three American households with young children. Phil is highly respected by key leaders across the Christian landscape, from Joel Osteen to James Dobson. His company, Jellyfish Labs, provides faith-based daily programming via the Internet at jellytelly.com. The characters from the What's in the Bible? series are featured, but the content is not specifically from the DVDs. Phil continues to pursue innovative ways to integrate faith and storytelling through Jellyfish Labs. He chose the name Jellyfish as a reminder to remain pliable to God's plans and not his own. Phil lives with his wife, Lisa, and their three kids in Illinois.
My Girls Thoughts:
Orangie(6 yrs old) absolutely LOVES this series. She thinks that it's really funny, and loves to dance around all crazy whenever there's a song on. She loves the in-van silliness with Michael a lot. I think it's because he's a goofy little kid like her!
Now that we've watched it again tonight for the 2nd time, she plans on wearing the promotional button that i gave her tomorrow at her sisters bowling tournament! :)
Hero(10 yrs old) is a BIG FAN of the series! She is always asking about when the next one will be coming out. She loves the banter between Michael and the un-heard Pierre in the minivan, and all the pop culture references. She loves the Popsicle Stick Theatre, especially this discs Star Wars lightsaber duel! And don't even get me started on her love of the Ish-Bosheth song!(...nothing rhymes with Ish-Bosheth!)
I have a feeling that she'll be making her own Popsicle Stick Theatre soon!
They BOTH love 'The Fabulous Bentley Brothers'(the guys you see singing at about the 1min15 mark in the trailer below)..as for me?...*swoon*...I hope that Phil keeps these guys around for all 13 discs!!
** I received a free copy of What's in the Bible #5 for being part of the What's in the Bible Street Team, and these are our honest thoughts. You may or may not like it as much as we do! **
And so now onto the GIVEAWAY!! *cheer* (winner will receive a coupon to exchange at their local Christian bookstore, OR to mail to Tyndale to receive their free copy!)
