The Old Farmers Almanac 2012 (and Kids version!)

I'll never forget how much my grandmother loved to read and refer to The Old Farmers Almanac. It was always somewhere in plain sight at her house like on the kitchen table or the side table right beside her rocking chair. It was her go-to spot to check the weather each day.
I grew up hearing tidbits of information or interesting facts from it, and would always make sure that I had enough money to buy her a new one each Christmas. I always knew that it was be well received and so appreciated. But Grama passed on, and i grew up leaving behind the Almanac tradition.

When i received one in the mail to review, I was instantly brought back, and flooded with memories seeing that old familiar cover. I immediately started flipping through it, and found a recipe for Dark Chocolate Chile Balls(omg. YES!), and the weather forecast for winter and summer(famous for 80% accuracy!), fell in LOVE the astronomy section, and was pleased to see a gardening section(i need all the help i can get here!!). There is SO much information to be read! I was also REALLY happy to see a page with a 'Table of Measures' and Metric Conversion(I need lots of help with this too!).

About: Since 1792, The Old Farmer's Almanac has spoken to all walks of life: tide tables for those who live near the ocean; sunrise and planting charts for those who live on the farm; recipes for those who live in the kitchen; and forecasts for those who don't like the question of weather left up in the air.

Highlights:
- Long range weather forecasts
- Home remedies that work
- Astronomical Data
- Gardening Advice
- Wit, Wisdom, Folklore, and more!
- only $5.99

Both my girls were also the lucky recipients of:

Honored with five International Book Awards—Best Children’s Book Series, Best Children’s Educational, Best Children’s Nonfiction, Best Young Adult Educational, and Best Young Adult Nonfiction.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids keeps youngsters entertained for hours with fun facts, fascinating stories, and easy (and educational!) projects and activities such as:

Calendar: famous 13ths of the month
Weather: wacky ways to predict the weather
Gardening: how-to-grow for peas, tomatoes, and “alligator pears” (avocados!), and a cucumber in a bottle
Crafts: 12 easy projects to foster kids’ creativity—and fun!
Nature: how leaves change color, advice on poison ivy, and all about grasshoppers and birds and much, much more!

Kids can’t put it down!
Parents can’t wait to pick it up!
Teachers give it high marks!

* Here's a shot of my youngest daughter 'Orangie'(7 yr) reading her Kids Almanac on a car trip. I cannot believe how big of a hit this book is with her!  I honestly thought it would be more her big sisters 'thing', but she spent an hour and a half reading off cool things she found to us! It's a BIG hit! *

I didn't grow up with the Farmer's Almanac but it would be neat to know the long-range weather forcasts and see how accurate they are.

I grew up with it - being a grandaughter/daughter of farmers, it was interesting how accurate this really is. I used it in 2002 to choose my wedding date (no rain predicted - super sunny) and they were right.

I grew up with the Farmers Almanac and I still like to read it from time to time especially if I am planning on gardening. I want to win it for my mum though. She still likes to get one every year. The kids copy would be great for my best nephew.
