A little something the kids do each summer is '100 books of summer'.
A challenge we (kids and I) came up with last summer to see if they could do it!
They both surpassed the 100 books mark!
Now I have had people ask me if i'm crazy..but we're all BIG BIG readers (Hero was read to starting at day 1 in the NICU), and there aren't many rules to the challenge, it's meant to be fun! and there is a small prize for making it to 100 (like a webkinz or something)..Hero's books tend to be bigger since she is 11, so i let her include graphic novels, etc..Last year Orangie's challenge also included the bedtime stories she read us...BUT as you can see she's already almost full on the chart to 25 and it's only July 3rd, and that's NOT including bedtime books this year! PHEW!
and YES. the library staff at the 2 nearby pretty much know us all by name! In the summer we're there pretty much every 2 days!
OH! and the bristolboard is mainly white right now because as the summer goes on they put on cool things about certain books, or doodle or draw something from a book, etc..

We love reading too! Our library has an awesome summer reading program! I love reading for myself and kids! :) Happy 4th of July!
What a wonderful post! That's so interesting...Little One was read to right from the beginning too! I remember reading to her and singing to her ALL DAY in the NICU! :) To this day, she still loves books! She loves being read to more than she likes playing with toys!
I LOVE that you do this with your girls! It's such a great bonding experience. I'm thinking of doing this with my kids :)
I love this idea!! I may have to steal it for Little Boo
What a fun idea! Thanks for sharing.
What a good idea! My boys do summer reading club at the library and for every five books they read, their names get entered to win a prize at the end of summer. They usually get to about fifty, maybe I should kick it up a notch! LOL
Great idea! Looks like fun.
What a neat idea!
What a cool idea!
Have a great WW!

My little one loves books as well. She is just two and will now sit down and "read" books herself. I love listening to her narrate what's in the book. If it's one we've read to her a lot and she knows my heart you would swear she's actually reading it. Pretty cute.
This is a great idea. I'll have to remember this as my kids get older :D Thank you for introducing me to something new! Happy 4th!!

What a neat idea! We are avid bookworms here too.
What a wonderful idea...a love of reading will stay with them for a lifetime!
YAY for young readers. Our library does a I Love To Read Challenge every year that my girls like to participate in. They get little prizes for every 20 books they read, so it really keeps them wanting to read to reach the next level.
This is a really fun idea! My daughter usually participates in a summer reading program but she never brought home the packet a the end of school this year! She's still reading, just not as much as usual!
What a great idea! Our library also hosts a party with prizes for every 150 minutes of reading, plus fun activities each week.
Thanks for linking up for WW!
