This past Sunday I used my mad internet skillz and managed to find a couple places in SW Ontario that had apples on their trees and were allowing people in to pick them AND not charging more than normal! YAY! (for those not knowing why this is hard..a lot of Ontario and Michigan was hit with a crazy spring which wiped out 90% of the apple crops!)..So, we chose to drive about an hour and a half and go to St. George Ontario which is just outside Brantford. We went to a simple but beautiful and VERY well run (ie super friendly!) place called Orchard Farm Home. It was a fantastic fall drive, and a just a great experience overall. I have a feeling we'll be back!

That's awesome that you managed to find a place. We're near Brantford so I'll keep the OFH in mind for next year! Hopefully all the orchards bounce back next year - so sad what happened to them this year. :(

Man, I feel like I've let my kids down this year - we haven't even tried to go apple picking and it's something we've done every year. I should call around and see if anyone local is selling apples. Maybe we can go this weekend.

I'm a bit bummed about the lack of apples around here :( I checked out Apple Land's website and they have all kinds of stuff but I had to laugh when I saw the phrase, come pick apples out of a bin! Not quite the photo op I hope for each year lol

It was a terrible year for apples around here (NC) too :-(
We had a horrid spring resulting in terrible apple crops too - in fact, my old apple tree out back that I rely on for plenty of apples for jam, apple butter and apple wine sadly only gave me 10 apples vs. the usual 200! I need to go find some apples... ;) Glad you found a place to do your apple picking! :)
