* Found this shot in my pics tonight..it's a bit fuzzy but it shows his sweetness. We miss you Yoshi!! *

Our sweet guy died Saturday night..exactly 2 yrs and 6 months after we got him..more HERE..

Monday, July 30, 2012

It took forever....

...but tonight I sat back and removed any pictures/art that weren't mine or given to me in a press release.

There have been far too many posts going around with the horror stories of taking things that aren't yours.

And considering that sometimes I borrow coffee money off my kids, I sure as heck don't need an invoice/fine/lawsuit!

Now...it's time for bed!! Phew!!

Have YOU gone back through and removed pics/art from your blog?

Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand (book review)

A perfect summer's night ends in a deadly crash - and four lives are changed forever.

On a warm June evening, a local tradition continues: the students of Nantucket High gather for a bonfire on the beach. But the celebration ends in tragedy after a horrible car crash leaved the driver, Penny Alistair, dead and her twin brother, Hobby, in a coma. Penny's boyfriend, Jake, and her friend Demeter are unhurt but haunted by the events of that night, and by the questions that linger about what happened in the car - and in the dunes before Penny took the wheel.

For Zoe, the twins' mother, the unthinkable awaits: life without her daughters, and an aagonizing recovery for the son who had been a star athlete with infinite prospects. Free-spirited Zoe has been as much friend as mother to her children, but now she has to face devastating truths about them, and about her own role in all that happened.

As summer unfolds, Zoe and the other parents ask whether their efforts to protect their children from life's realizities have only left them more vulnerable. The key to understanding the accident lies in what Penny learned that evening on the beach - but will it also destroy the survivors' fragile peace?

Elin Hilderbrand lives on Nantucket with her husband and their three children. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and holds an MFA from the University of Iowa.

Thoughts from OHM:
I was very excited to get the chance to review Summerland. I hadn't read any of Elin's previous books and always love to find a new author to enjoy.
This wasn't quite the book I was expecting..I honestly thought it would just be a fluffy darker beach type book, but it's more of a dark drama. It took me about 1/3 of the way in to finally start enjoying it, there is a lot of jumping back and forth between characters and a lot of character information and stories to digest.
Once I got used to the writers style, I was able to relax a bit more and just enjoy. The characters are interesting and well-written and you really feel for them with what they have to endure.
It may not be a beach read, but it's a good read for the summer season! :)

* I received an Advanced Reading Copy, in exchange for my honest review. *

Awww. RIP little Yoshi.

It was a sad morning here. Our little hamster Yoshi finally passed on last night :(
He died exactly 2 years and 6 months from the day we got him. ( Isn't that weird?!)

RIP little Yoshi.

* always had 'bed head' and looking startled! lol *

* looked like he was begging for snacks half the time! *

* absolutely super fuzzy and adorable! *

He may have also been a bit of an adventurer..remember THIS crazy post?!

We'll miss you little guy!

Peptalash - review/giveaway

Longer, thicker, darker lashes in just two weeks!

Peptalash is the first-ever combination of three clinically proven peptides that work together to promote lashes that appear longer and fuller.

Lash length was shown to increase by as much as 43%, with lash diameter increasing by 40% - almost 3x the volume!

"Peptalash makes it simple, requiring just two minutes a day for proven long-term results. Available for just a fraction of the cost of similar products on the market, there are no side effects and Peptalash is available without a prescription" said Dia Foley, VP, Sales and Marketing at Indeed Labs.

Thoughts from OHM:
I jumped at the opportunity to review Peptalash, because one of the downfalls of getting older is that my lashes just aren't long and lush like they were when younger. I found it very easy to use, just give it a gentle shake and apply to the base of the upper and lower lashes every morning and night. I was a bit afraid to use it at first because I wasn't sure if I would have a steady enough hand, and I'd read reviews that said it stung quite a bit if you get it in your eyes! But slow and steady I did just fine. I never did get it in my eyes! It's really no different than the skill required to use eyeliner, well actually it's easier because there is no colour to show your mistakes! lol. I have noticed a bit of a difference after the 2 weeks, my lashes are definitely a big longer and thicker, and I will definitely keep using the product until I sadly run out.

Peptalash is available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart across Canada for $24.99.

GIVEAWAY TIME!
One lucky Canadian Home of OHM reader will win a bottle of Peptalash!

Disney Baby Cuddly Bodysuit - review/giveaway

Wow! Did you know the average baby goes through more than thirty-five bodysuits in their first year? Inspired by real mom and developed by the Disney team of "Momgineers", the Disney Cuddly Bodysuit makes babies even more huggable, allowing mom to focus on those special magical moments right from the start!

Thoughts from OHM:
I may be well past the baby clothes stage, but I still remember very well what to look for in quality baby clothing! When I got the cuddly bodysuit in the mail, my first reaction was 'Awwwwww!!' followed by just a wee bit of LOUD biological clock ticking! lol. I had to get the 0/3 month size? lol.
I was instantly impressed though! The bodysuit is so nice and soft! I looked and it's made with 100% ring-spun combed cotton! LOVE it. Next I noticed the 2 rows of re-enforced 'grow-with-me' snaps. This is another FANTASTIC feature. My girls were long and skinny, so would often grow out of the bodysuit lengthwise before they even fit it widthwise!

2 more fab features are the tag-less neck label (no more itchy-scratchies!), and the colourful safety stitching (for added strength!).

I give this Disney Baby Cuddly Bodysuit an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up! I know my sister-in-law will LOVE it for her brand new sweet baby boy.

Thoughts from Tabitha, my writer who HAS a baby :)
I could tell right away that I was going to love this diaper shirt. First the feel of it, even unwashed was very soft and the material is the perfect thickness. It two of my favorite diaper shirt features, the extra shoulders that allow for an extra wide neck opening and reinforced grow with me snaps! Too many times I have had diaper shirts rip out around the snaps so this is one of those long lasting multiple wear type features that I look for. At first I was skeptical about the sizing but once I put it on my little guy it was perfect and he has room to grow so we'll be able to enjoy this shirt for a while. We received the 6-9 month size and my son is 8 months old and tends to wear clothes in the 9-12 month range, so when this shirt fit I was very happy. Occasionally branded clothing runs small but this was actually accurately sized. I haven't had a chance to test out the washing durability but I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Thanks Home of OHM for allowing me to review this diaper shirt.

The Disney Baby Cuddly Bodysuit is available in different patterns and prints exclusively at Babies "R" Us!

GIVEAWAY TIME!
One lucky Canadian Home of OHM reader will win a Disney Baby Cuddly Bodysuit in their choice of size! (choose between: 0/3m, 3/6m, and 6/9m)

Wordless Wednesday - 1 Big Fluffy Storm Cloud

Last night as I was getting the girls ready for bed, I came downstairs and wondered 'Why does it look so weird outside?!'...it appeared almost orange-y looking..and yet 10 minutes prior it was bright with blue skies..so I pop outside and see one big fluffy colourful storm cloud passing by but with blue skies all around it. SOOOO weird!
(and these pics don't do the weirdness justice!)

** Edited to add: and no never seems to actually end up wordless! lol ;)

What's on the Sticks: current #knit project

So last night I was able to get out for an hour of knit night...I was a bit afraid to start my newest project because I am still a bit of a knitting newbie, and this project is out of my comfort zone. But I youtube'd the stitches(what is a knit in front and back and front again?!) and was 'feelin it' finally, and it helped that I had a super awesome knitter last night helpin' me along the way!

So here is the tiny beginning that it is currently:

and here is what I hope/pray that it 'grows up' to be:
(Thankyou LindaMNoble, this is almost exactly what i saw in my head for making out of this beautiful wool! It's perfect! sidenote: i absolutely LOVE this Rowan Summerspun, doesn't it just remind you of mermaids and seaweed? ok, well the pictures don't really do it justice, but really it's pretty darn awesome wool.)

What do you have on the sticks right now?

Day out with Thomas - review/giveaway

( Review for Day out with Thomas written by Tabitha)

First I want to thank Christy for giving me the opportunity to take my kids to this event. I've been wanting to go to A Day Out with Thomas ever since my oldest boy developed an interest in trains, more specifically Thomas. When I told my kids we would be going to A Day Out With Thomas I'm sure my neighbours could hear the excited cheers from my three oldest. To say they were excited is an understatement!

We started our day early, which I am glad we did, because it gave us a chance to see all the attractions before our train ride. They had a bubble truck blowing bubbles constantly as well as an area set up where the kids could blow their own bubbles, it was a sight to see and of course my 2 year old was just in his glory watching the big bubbles float up in the sky.

Our first stop was a visit to Sir Topham Hatt , to get our picture taken and get the first station stamp. Then we went into the arena where they had jumpy castles, colouring pages, crafts, tattoos, train tables to play at, and an entertainment area with a magician, a ventriloquist and more, a gift shop and a story telling and video viewing area. No matter what you most enjoy about Thomas they had it all. My kids loved each and every station! I was very impressed with how well organized everything was and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

After we were done in the arena area we headed outside where they had some food vendors available, a hay bale maze, Misty Island (a water misting station to help us cool down), complimentary face painting and balloon trains (I forgot to take pictures of ours before they got popped :( ). The thing I was most impressed with was number of washroom facilities available and the designated nursing and diaper changing stations, I saw 3 but there could've been more. It's nice to be at a family event that thinks of these things for us nursing moms!

Next was the grand finale of the day....the long awaited train ride! We went to get in line early so that we would get to see Thomas coming into the station and you could just feel the excitement from all the children and then hear the cute little shouts of "It's Thomas Mommy! It's Thomas!". I wasn't sure how my kids would react but to hear those little shouts from my kids as well as others made the day completely worth it! It was nice to get on the train and sit for a while after all the walking around and standing and of course the kids thoroughly enjoyed their little ride on Thomas, even if my kids were a little sad that they weren't riding in Annie and Clarabel ;).

If you have train lovers in your house this is an event not to be missed! I sure am glad were given the opportunity to attend, it was a great day!

Day out with Thomas will be in St Thomas, Ontario again THIS weekend (July 20-22).
You can get more info and buy tickets HERE.

For the full tour schedule you can click HERE.

** Don't forget about our awesome Thomas train whistle giveaway! **

I'm an #AdultEssentials Brand Ambassador! Thanks @shesconnected!

I am so excited to announce that I'm going to be an Adult Essentials Vitamin Brand Ambassador for the next 3 months thanks to ShesConnected!

I've never had much luck sticking with taking a multi-vitamin. They usually taste gross, and I have a horrible time swallowing them because they're just so big! You tend to not stick with something you dread doing! So I am LOVING the Adult Essentials Gummy Vitamins because I can chew them, they taste AWESOME, and who doesn't love gummies?! My dr will be so happy to see my bloodwork lookin' great when i get it done in August, because I sure don't mind taking these vitamins! It's like a treat!

Product Highlights:
  • Canada's first complete line of Adult Strength Gummy Vitamins
  • Canada's only government approved Gummy Vitamin Manufacturer
  • Award Winning & Great Tasting (PTPA Media)
  • No Artificial Flavours
  • No Artificial Colours
  • No Artificial Sweeteners
  • Guaranteed Dairy, Gluten, & Nut-Free!
So thanks to this ambassadorship, I was sent a pretty sweet tote bag full of enough Adult Essentials Gummies to last me the 3 month term. I was seriously jumping with joy!!
Check it out:

But I needed to figure out where l could find them when I run out. I checked out 4 nearby stores; Sobey's, Rexall, Loblaws, and Shoppers Drug Mart. My local Sobeys didn't carry them, I think they only carried THREE adult multi-vitamins! Next up was the Rexall next door. I found them there, but they only carried the multi, vit D, and Omega-3. Next stop was Loblaws, where I do most of my groceries...I was absolutely shocked and disappointed to find that they carried the kids line 'IronKids', but NOT the Adult Essentials. So I popped across the street to check Shoppers, and they carried the complete line of adults, and the kids line too! Guess I know where I'll be shopping for my gummies!

Adult Essentials can be found in 90ct bottles at most: Rexall Pharma Plus, Metro, Sobeys, Loblaws/Real Canadian Superstore, London Drugs, and Shoppers Drug Mart.
They're also available online at www.well.ca/brand/adult-essentials-gummies.html

For more information on Adult Essentials, you can visit their website, or Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.

* Disclosure: I am participating in the Adult Essentials Blogger Outreach program by ShesConnected. I received a supply of vitamins and compensation in exchange for my participation in this campaign. The opinions on this blog are my own. *

Litfuse Tour: Inescapable - by Nancy Mehl

About the Book:
Lizzie Engel is used to running away. At eighteen, she left her Mennonite hometown, Kingdom, Kansas, with plans never to return.
But five years later, the new life she built is falling apart. Lizzie knows she's being followed, and she's certain the same mysterious stranger is behind the threatening letters she's received. Realizing she'll have to run again, the only escape Lizzie can manage is a return to the last place she wants to go.
Once she arrives in Kingdom, Lizzie is confident she'll be safe until she comes up with a new plan. In reacquainting herself with the town and its people--especially her old friend, Noah Housler--she wonders if she judged her hometown and her Mennonite faith too harshly. However, just as she begins to come to terms with her roots, Lizzie is horrified to discover the danger she ran from is closer than ever.
No longer sure who to trust and fearful for her life and the lives of those around her, Lizzie finds she has only one place left to run--to the Father whose love is inescapable.

About Nancy:
Nancy Mehl, the author of 12 books, received an ACFW Carol Award in 2009 for her novel For Whom the Wedding Bell Tolls. She has a background in social work and is a member of ACFW and RWA. She writes from her home in Wichita, Kansas, where she lives with her husband, Norman, and their puggle, Watson. Visit her website at www.nancymehl.com.

Thoughts from OHM:
I absolutely LOVED this book, it will definitely be a keeper on my bookshelf.  After lending it to a couple friends that is! Gotta say that this book was not my normal genre of read, normally i just like light and fluffy fun...but this romantic suspense was awesome! This 322-page book got gobbled up in just one day! I love that it kept me questioning and re-thinking (playing the who-dunnit game in my head!) and just all around enjoying!! The characters were well written and believable, and easily pictured in my mind while reading. Nancy, if you read this, can i be first on the list to review the next book, Unbreakable?? :)
I'm glad that i was chosen to participate in this book tour, I'll definitely be looking up more of Nancy Mehl's books!! She's quite the writer!

Check out the book's trailer!

MAM Anti-Colic Bottles - review/giveaway

Recently Home of OHM was sent a big box of Mam Anti-Colic Bottles..now we all know that I am way past the baby stage, but my writer Tabitha has a wee one, so I passed them along to her! But I gotta say that these bottles looked SOOOO much better than anything my girls used when they were littles!

About these fab bottles:
  • The MAM Anti-Colic Bottle is the perfect choice for parents who use bottles for feeding with breast mil or formula.
  • The bottle features a vented base that regulates air pressure for a smooth milk flow with fewer air bubbles.
  • An oversized, easy-to-read scale makes measuring milk easy.
  • The bottle's wide opening makes it easy to fill and clean.
  • A practical sterilizing feature allows for the quick and safe cleaning of empty bottles in thhe microwave
  • The bottles are BPA-free, PVC-free, lead-free, CPSIA-compliant and microwave and dishwasher safe!

About MAM nipples:
  • MAM's ultra-soft silicone Silk Teat nippes are suitable for breast milk and formula.
  • The familiar orthodontic shape is ideal for switching from breast to bottle - babies instinctively like the MAM nipple because it feels so familiar to them.
  • MAM nipples come in 4 sizes.

Thoughts from Tabitha:
"These are excellent bottles. I have used a very similar bottle in the past for my other children so this wasn't a stretch. They are easy to put together and clean and little N had no troubles latching on to the nipple, in fact he did better with this bottle then the one I had from my previous children. I LOVE the self sterilizing feature and that they are BPA  free. Since I am still nursing the self sterilizing feature is a bonus because I'd only use one bottle at a time for water and it's a pain to have to sterilize one bottle, but this feature is very handy! I would definitely recommend this bottle to friends."

MAM bottles and nipples can be found in Canada at Walmart and Shoppers.
For more information be sure to check out http://www.mambaby.com/, and on Facebook and Twitter.

GIVEAWAY TIME!!
ONE lucky Home of OHM reader with win a MAM prizepack containing:
