How to Eat, and Eat Well, on Your Next Oklahoma RV Vacation

Whether you’re renting an RV or you’re taking your own RV out on the road, you probably spend a lot of time thinking about your destination. Although it’s a good idea to plan out what you’ll be doing while you’re on the road, it’s not the only thing you should think about.

You have to think about what everyone is going to eat too!

Here are some tips on how you can eat well during your next Oklahoma vacation without breaking the bank.

Do Some Meal Planning

There are many reasons why you should start meal planning. It can help you save money because you are planning your meals according to the latest sales at the grocery store and it can help you eat healthier too. When on vacation, it’s essential because you won’t have access to your pantry at home.

Focus on meals that rely on nonperishable items like canned tuna, taco shells, and cereal. That way you don’t have to worry about them spoiling during the trip.

Buy the Fresh Stuff When You Get to Your Destination

Meals made of only nonperishable items aren’t very appetizing. No one wants to fork plain tuna in their mouth with a side of canned corn. Some perishable items are a must.

The trick is to purchase all your fresh stuff when you get to your destination. From avocados for toast in the morning and tacos for dinner to salad greens that will be paired with campfire cooked steaks, it’s a lot easier to store and keep fresh perishable items if you purchase them at your location.

Tie Everything Down

Another reason to wait to purchase some of your stuff until you get to your destination is because it’s less stuff to tie down!

Anything that isn’t nailed down to the RV is going to roll around. That includes items that are stored in the pantry and the refrigerator. Take a few bungee cords and make sure beverages are tied down in the fridge and those potatoes won’t roll around.

Eat Some Meals Locally

Just because you want to save a little money by cooking some meals at the campsite doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get out there and enjoy all the delicious food that Oklahoma has to offer!

Oklahoma is known for some delicacies that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else including:

  • Fried-onion burgers that feature a meat patty pressed into a mound of shredded onions before it’s fried on the grill
  • Indian tacos that feature frybread are common at festivals and fairs
  • Barbecue anything
  • Banh MI is easy to find thanks to Vietnamese refugees throughout the area
  • Fried pie from Arbuckle Mountain Pie that is filled with fruit of all kinds

Don’t forget to think about what you’ll be eating when you’re ready to pack up your bags for your next RV adventure! With these tips, your family will eat, and eat well, throughout your entire Oklahoma trip.
